Ruin Conservation

Teampull na Trionaid (Trinity Church), North Uist, is the most important ecclesiastical ruin in the Hebrides. Following a comprehensive conservation project, it is now open to visitors.

Teampull na Trionaid (Trinity Church), North Uist

We are enthusiastic about ruins; the sense of discovery and visual drama. Seldom complying with current building standards or structural guidelines, and more exposed to weathering than roofed buildings, decay is an inherent part of their character, but even ruins need maintenance and occasionally, repairs. Conservation interventions must be sensitive yet durable, to ensure they can be safely enjoyed by visitors for years to come. Fortunately, grants are often available and we have helped numerous owners and heritage bodies to care for ruins.
